Full Synopsis

Having become the main recipient of blame after his family practice in the US floundered to bankruptcy, young neurologist ALESSIO VISCARDI has fortuitously discovered that his sister LALA does much more than talk in her sleep; unbeknownst to her, she assumes an alternate persona—two girls, one body. This persona appears to be a genius capable of answering any question that's asked of her, but only while she’s asleep. Alessio has just moved his life to a modern, tourist-ridden Venice, Italy, all to live close to Lala, who runs the city’s risqué Caffé Cupid. Here on the history-rich islands of the Venetian lagoon frequently plagued by tidal flooding, he secretly conducts his nighttime research on her while she sleeps unaware, paying his expenses with a job at the nearby hospital.
Holding conversations with Lala’s sleep-talking self, Alessio struggles to diagnose the anomaly as either parasomnia or demonic possession, the same bold question mark he’s had all his life as a religiously confused man of science: natural or supernatural? This nocturnal persona one day calls herself “LOVELZA”, one of many proclamations of her independence from Lala. Through Lala's lips, Lovelza speaks as a distinct person and begins to inspire Alessio's belief in the spiritual by answering his every inquiry, unveiling herself as a source of unlimited knowledge. Enthralled by her limitless intellect, and by the possibilities she yields, Alessio begins to use her counsel to treat the patients at his hospital day job. While slowly becoming enamored by Lovelza, he engages a crusade to bring about a scientific revolution.
From miraculously diagnosing patients to conceptualizing new forms of antibiotics, Alessio gives rise to his reputation amidst the splendor of Venice Carnevale, the city’s annual season of theatrical revelry. In his ambitious strides towards self-aggrandizement, lying and secrecy becomes a key requisite. Hearing his lies most are the few close acquaintances he makes: DEMETRIA, a free spirit who instructs classes at the local Baccanti Dance Academy; and the indelibly obliging EVERITT and BRIES BERRING, a young speed-boating couple unexpectedly adept in a deeply clandestine profession.
Alessio's work quickly attracts more than the attention of his friends. He soon comes to learn of his menacing secret admirer, the successor of Italy's oldest occult organization historically embedded in the formation of modern society, whose illustrious members have taken a profound interest in his work...
However, most complicated and threatening of all is the deviant nature of Alessio's growing relationship with Lovelza, who only desires one thing of him in return: love.
